Sultry summer evenings
On Saturdays 27 July and 17 August, FutureLand will be opening its doors until 9.00 pm for a presentation (in Dutch) and lavish tapas meal on the New Fork restaurant terrace, which can be extended to include a tour and/or boat trip. Enjoy such things as albondigas, smoked salmon with avocado, Roseval potatoes with aioli, and chicken wings, while admiring the views across the world’s most modern terminals! The presentation and tapas cost €18.50 from 12 years of age and €9.50 per child up to 11 years (excl drinks). Book via www.futureland.nl.
Visual artist and art teacher Joanna Smolarz (Kunstatelier het Kruithuis) will be offering various workshops for children during the summer holidays on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (except 17 August). She will be using various techniques including watercolour, acrylic, pencil and felt tips to paint stones that she has collected on Maasvlakte beach. She’ll also teach the young ones to make clay marine animals and there’s an opportunity to paint on canvas.
The workshop costs €2.00 per workshop. Equipment and supervision are included. The workshops are offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm. You can join in the workshops at any time. Please note the guidance is in Dutch.
Young visitors and their parents/guardians can join in a fun and active Kidsquiz every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. This Dutch spoken activity starts at 2.00 pm with a short, funny film. Then the children and parents/guardians can get started with a treasure hunt to discover FutureLand. The Kidsquiz has two difficulty levels: one for children aged between 6 and 9 years and one for children aged 10 and up. It’s free to join the quiz and there is no need to book.

Discover the animals in the port and learn about the companies that operate in the area. Maybe you’ll even see a seal or traces of a sand lizard!
The treasure hunt including bus transport costs €6.95 per person and will be organized in Dutch. For more information and bookings, visit www.futureland.nl. Don’t forget your binoculars!
Maasvlakte 2 bike tour
FutureLand is organising a unique bike tour along five hotspots in Rotterdam’s newest port area on Saturday, 20 July and Sunday, 11 August. This is a guided tour in Dutch that takes you and your own bike on a 30-km-tour along companies, dunes and the coast, so you can enjoy the many panoramic views across the North Sea. The bike tour starts at noon and takes 3.5 hours. The tour costs €12.50 per person and includes a bottle of water. You should take your own bike or electric bike.
Beach excursions are being organised in the summer holidays on various Wednesdays and Sundays, led by experienced fossil explorer Walter Langendoen. His collection of thousands of finds now comprises fossilised hyena droppings, mammoth bones, vole teeth and much more. You can find more information and book on www.futureland.nl.
